I have completed a dual-enrolment programme with Advent Links – SAUC, majoring Diploma in Preschool Education (Teaching & Leadership) cum Bachelor of Arts (Childhood & Family Education) from Edith Cowan University, in 2008. I am bilingual in both English and Mandarin. I obtained my Certificate in Infant and Toddler Care and Development from SEED institute in 2013. I completed my Master Degree in Early Childhood at National Institute of Education in 2016. Currently, I am taking the advanced certificate in training and assessment.
My Centre has achieved Spark Certification since 2013. Since then, we had also been advocating to be a green centre. Teaching children to care for the environment is a learning experience that is an important part of growing up. It gives them skills in respect, empathy, patience, responsibility, and teaches them about consequences. But it also teaches them valuable lessons about sustainability and how we want to leave the world for future generations. Showing children how to recycle properly is like passing the baton to them for a cleaner and brighter future.
I believe that every child is unique individual who grows and develops at their own pace. Children are natural learners who enjoy learning and challenging daily experiences with their peers and adults as a facilitator. Hence, in school, they should be provided with a rich learning environment that encourages them to discover for themselves through inter- action with people and the environment.
Personally, I take a strong belief in programs that practices a combination of child- initiated, teacher-directed and free-choice learning so as to create a balance in children’s overall development. Most importantly, in the early years stage, it is essential to create a happy, safe and secured learning environment for children especially for those coming from diverse backgrounds. With that, positive home-school partnership is definitely a necessity for continuation of teaching at home.
